Excellence In Nursing

The Sophie Guillot Excellence in Nursing Scholarship Fund, in honor of Sophie Guillot, was inspired by her recognized passion for delivering compassionate care to those in need.

Sophie took time with each patient to be sure they felt heard, understood and confidant in their care. Her patients felt this compassion. Sophie’s work experience started in the Emergency Department as a Unit Secretary, advanced to a Patient Care Tech as her schooling progressed and eventually became a BSN RN upon graduation from Bon Secours School of Nursing. She took her role very seriously in each of these positions and learned along the way how to best serve her patients and co-workers. She was constantly looking for ways to improve processes that would eventually lead to better patient care. Sophie drew on experiences to provide the most compassionate care for all patients. Sophie talked with every employee in the hospital and was able to take something of value from that interaction. Many of her co-workers have said she “brought the house together”.

When Sophie became ill and in turn became a patient herself, this heightened her passion even further. She was determined that any patient she came in contact with was as comfortable and as informed of their care as she could provide. With the fast pace of the ED, Sophie’s care with the patients was notched up even higher than her normal high standard. She now knew first-hand what it was like to be a patient and was even more driven to ensure each patient received the quality care and compassion they deserved.
Sophie was an exemplary person who embodied the core values of Bon Secours - compassion, quality, and service.
